Yeah, I resonate with this at times. If I'm out there pushing myself to try new experiences then I'm fine. I tend to fall back into a bit of fear and isolate myself at home. Warmer weather with extra daylight certainly helps!!

I live in the Pacific Northwest, and I've always felt more attuned to the energy of victory during he summer months! I'm working to channel it all year long :)

Beautiful reminder. Every day of living on this planet is a victory if we zoom out and expand our tiny, inconsequential experience of time and existence.:)

Great point! I also hope that midlife women will continue to believe in and celebrate all kinds of victories: deeply personal ones, huge public ones, and everything in between. Celebration is also key. In fact that's why I named my magazine Womancake, because cake is a big part of celebrations, but as women age we are viewed as less worthy of celebration by society, and we're less likely to celebrate ourselves. The portmanteau of 2 words serves as a reminder that we should keep celebrating!

Oh I love that! I was wondering about the origin of that word! Speaking of cake... I just finished Allie Brosch's hilarious Hyperbole and a Half and if you haven't read it, take a peek at her chapter titled: The God of Cake: http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/10/god-of-cake.html

HA this is fantastic, and much the way I used to behave AS AN ADULT if there was a pie any where in my airspace. I loved it so much that I eventually taught myself to bake it, then I had to give up dairy and gluten, so that's all done. Sometimes I'll whip up a fruit crumble with oats, oat flour and Earthsource margarine, but it ain't the same!

I believe in celebrating every achievement, even if it's just me telling myself, "Way to go, Jen, you did it!" A woman who knows a lot about victories and losses, runner Kara Goucher, said: "Acknowledge all of your small victories. They will eventually add up to something great.”

I've found that to be 100% true, and it's a principle that I teach my coaching clients, especially when they're in that low valley between job interviews. If we can pay attention to the small ones and see how they accumulate, it can shift our mindset in the right direction. I also believe in big celebrations for big victories, though I'm not so great at huge parties, especially if I have to be the center of attention (case in point: for my 50th last year I took 10 of my closest friends to a restaurant, then we went back to a friend's house and had huge bowls of

(non-dairy) ice cream). I used to love to play big shows back when I was a working musician, but I often left straight afterward, rather than sticking around to shmooze. Introverts gonna introvert, I guess! But I can still celebrate the shit outta things in my own way :)

Yes, each of us can choose how to celebrate in our own way. As writers, sometimes getting a good rejection letter counts!
